Police Department

Police Chief James Ridener

Police services are provided by 100 sworn personnel. Our Enhanced 911 capability features a 800 MHz Motorola system which provides better, reliable communications for public safety personnel in Westland and neighboring communities, allowing quicker responses to emergencies. Road patrols are divided into four 12-hour shifts, two day shifts and two night shifts.

                                                                     Mission Statement

The Westland Police Department shall work in partnership with the community to improve the quality of life by ensuring the order, security, peace and safety of citizens.

                                                      Credit Card Fraud Alert

It has been brought to our attention that criminals can alter ATM machines by adding card readers to obtain your card number and PIN. Please view this short Slide Show to educate yourself on what to look for to reduce your risk of becoming a victim.

                                                                    Animal Control

We want to inform the public that animal control is now part of the Building Department. For technology and communication reasons, the Police Department will continue to dispatch the animal control officers.

What this means for the citizen:

* If You are reporting an animal issue that requires an immediate or emergency response (dog bites, barking dog, etc...) you should call the Police desk at 722-9600. The Police Department will ensure that an animal control officer is dispatched.

* If you have a question about animal control issues, please call the Building Department at 467-3205 and leave a message.

                                                      Gun Safety

To assist with gun safety, we are distributing 100 gun trigger locks. These trigger locks will be available to the first 100 Westland Residents who come into the Westland Police Records Bureau. Our business hours are Wed-Fri 9am- 5pm.
