Gymnastics

Kids will love learning progressive skills that will encourage self-confidence and coordination. These classes provide fun in a friendly environment where children can learn to do gymnastic stunts safely. Students should wear loose clothing such as leotards, shorts, etc. Long hair should be pulled back. No jewelry please. Stud earrings are okay. Choose the class that best fits your child’s needs.

 TODDLER

Age:     2-3 years old with no experience who would still need a parent with them in order to participate. 

          Gymnasts will be introduced to some preschool level skills while interacting with other children

          and learning important social skills.

 FunStart Tennis






FunStart Tennis is a program designed to teach young children the fundamentals of tennis.  The classes are taught by United States Professional Tennis Association certified Chris Haddad and Karen Buddenborg.  They have been participants in the sport of tennis for over 15 years and have won numerous awards and trophies.  Their primary interest lies in introducing children to the lifelong sport of tennis and to promote fun and fitness.
 


                              Intro to Tennis-Preschool
 
     Introduce your preschooler to the game of tennis with our game based "Little Tennis" class.  We teach using graduated equipment more suited to their size and developmental readiness:  smaller, lightweight racquets, lower nets, beach balls, balloons, and large foam transition balls.  Tennis concepts, terminology, and skills are incorporated in our own brand of fun, with games like Sandwich, Zoo, Four Corner Relay, Walk the Dog, and many more!  All equipment is provided.  Please have children wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing.  Classes are 30 minutes long for 6 weeks.  Ages 3-5

                         Introduction to Tennis I (Ages 6-10)

     Introduce your child to the game of tennis with our game-based "Little Tennis" class.  Our six week session gives your child the fundamentals and gets them out on the court right away.  Tennis concepts, terminology, and skills are incorporated in our own brand of fun, with games like Sandwich, Zoo, Four Corner Relay, Silly Tennis and many more.  We conduct these classes on the gym floor with portable tennis nets and foam balls.  All equipment is provided.  Please have children wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing.  Classes are 50 minutes long for 6 weeks.

Cheerleading with Cheer America

Elementary and middle school kids will love learning cheerleading routines. This drop in class is
great fun and teaches children to do cheer routines safely. The class will have several opportunities to perform their skills in local competitions along side other Young Champions cheer teams from different cities in Michigan. These events are optional and may require additional fees. Some
events are seasonal. Wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Optional uniforms will be available for purchase at class. For more information, call 800-940-7469. NOTE: If school closes

Young Champions Self Defense

This fun course is designed for self defense purposes only and covers the Stranger Danger Technique. Safety papers will be handed out weekly. Basic through black belt levels are taught by certified black belt instructors. The class will have several opportunities to perform their skills in competitions along side other Young Champions students from different cities in Michigan. These events are optional and may require additional fees. Some events are seasonal. Awards and promotions are included throughout the program. For more information, call 800-940-7469.

Studio K Dance Classes

Join Studio K for dance classes. We offer instruction for beginning thru intermediate dancers. Ballet classes also offer Lyrical instruction. Hip Hop classes offer the latest moves as well as regular Jazz technique. Students should register in the correct age slot regardless of experience. Students will be moved up by instructors if needed. Attendance will be taken and rewards (like stickers) are given to the students. A recital will take place in June and all students who participate in at least sessions N9-M0 may be in the recital. This is optional and all students will learn a dance routine even if they are not in the recital. A costume fee of aprox $50-$60 will be due by session N9 if your child will be in the recital. Students should wear proper dance clothes to class. A note will be passed out at the first class regarding proper dance clothes and shoes. Please do not purchase shoes unless you are sure they are the correct color & style. Parents may be invited to observe the last few minutes of class the last day of each session. Snowflake Ornament or Pendant Necklace Beadcraft

Create a sparkly snowflake with a basic beadweaving technique with a simple loop to use as an ornament.  Or, for a beautiful holiday necklace, string your snowflake on flexible wire and add a few extra crystals for instant chic!  Please bring a bead board, bead mat or hand towel to use as a work surface.

Westland Stars Cheer and Dance Team

If you enjoy cheering and learning cheers, chants, stunts and pyramids or dancing and learning pom-pon, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical and novelty routines, come and join our team!  The Stars is a team based program and not just a class.  Join the STARS and build a GREAT team!

Age:   Boys and girls, 5th - 8th grade; 10 – 14 years of age

Date:  Westland Stars will be returning in September, 2010

Price:  $210 Varsity; $185 Junior Varsity for the season; $25 per month minimum or $5 per week.  (All fees paid must total $210.00 for Varsity and $185.00 for JV at the end of the season).  All Varsity fees must be paid by January 1, 2010.

Time:  Thursdays, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Uniform deposit: $20.00 per member deposit which is paid when the uniforms are distributed.  This will be returned when the uniforms are turned in and all class fees are paid.

VARSITY COMPETITION TEAM The competition team (Varsity) requires a season long commitment and girls and boys must try out to make the team.  Regular attendance is required for the Varsity Competition Team; members should attend every practice. The Varsity Competition Team does all the events and appearances with the addition of local competitions and recital at the end of the season. 

JR. VARSITY COMPETITION TEAM The Junior Varsity (Performance) team is open to any girl/boy who would like to join.  You do not have to try-out but it does require the students to attend practice each week.  The Jr. Varsity (Performance) team will attend at least one competition, all events and appearances and the recital at the end of the season. 


 

 

 

"Super Sitter” Babysitting Class

If you love to be with kids and want to learn the skills it takes to be a great babysitter, this class is for you! You can start your own babysitting service secure in the knowledge that you can handle most any situation after this class. Each student in the class will earn a certificate of participation and an American Heart Association Participation CPR card. This course will teach you the following subjects: child growth and development, basic first aid, CPR, bathing and diapering and infant, nutrition, fire safety, sitter’s personal safety, and age appropriate activities for children.

Age:     11 years of age and up; 12 student maximum
